VANCOUVER, CANADA: The newly elected Commissioners of the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation have officially taken office following an inauguration and swearing-in ceremony held at VanDusen Botanical Garden.
The ceremony welcomed seven newly elected Commissioners: Sacia Burton, Tom Digby, Jamie Han, Breanne Smart, Tamiko Suzuki, Spencer Van Vloten and T’uy’t’tanat Cease Wyss. Elected on October 17, 2026, the Commissioners will serve a four-year term from 2026 to 2030.
During the inaugural meeting, City Clerk Jason Twa administered the oath of office to the incoming Commissioners. The proceedings also included the election of Tom Digby as Board Chair and Sacia Burton as Vice-Chair, marking the beginning of the new Board’s responsibilities.
The event also acknowledged the contributions and service of outgoing Commissioners through a special term-in-review video. Former Commissioners, City Councillors, representatives of the City’s Leadership Team and community partners attended the ceremony. Steve Jackson, General Manager of the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation, served as the master of ceremonies.
In another significant development, the Park Board has announced a change in the venue for its regular meetings. Beginning in November 2026, regular Board and Committee meetings will move from 2099 Beach Avenue to City Chambers at Vancouver City Hall on a pilot basis.
The move is intended to make public participation more accessible by providing a centralized location close to public transit. It is also expected to encourage greater collaboration between Park Board Commissioners, the Mayor and City Council.
The first regular Board and Committee meeting at City Hall is scheduled for November 30, 2026. A recording of the inaugural meeting is also expected to be made available through the official Park Board meeting website.
The inauguration marks the beginning of a new four-year chapter in Vancouver’s parks and recreation administration, with the incoming Commissioners taking on the responsibility of overseeing public parks, recreational facilities and related community services. (Courtesy : City of Vancouver)
